The final entries of the ECCO FEI World Championships Herning 2022

From the 6th to the 12th of August 2022, the ECCO FEI World Championships will take place in Herning, Denmark. The final list of entries from each participating country was published on the 26th July 2022. The following disciplines will take place:

  • FEI Jumping World Championship for Seniors
  • FEI Dressage World Championship for Seniors
  • FEI Para Dressage World Championship for Seniors
  • FEI Vaulting World Championship for Seniors

Show Jumping greats:

Maher & Explosion W and Fuchs & Leone Jei lead an impressive entry list for a nail-biting showjumping competition. Maher and his horse blew the rest away at Tokyo 2020, but Fuchs won this year’s Longines FEI Show Jumping World Cup™  after teaming with Leone Jei to lead Switzerland to European gold a year ago.

Maher and Fuchs are among the singles gold favorites, along with Swedish pair Henrik von Eckermann and King Edward, and Peder Fredricson and H&M All In. European champion Andre Thieme and Germany’s DSP Chakaria may be among the challengers, as are America’s Mclain Ward and Contagious, who impressed in Tokyo.

Dressage duos:

Germany has two equestrian legends, one of whom will be competing at the 7th World Championships, and another who will at least make her debut in dressage.

Isabelle Werth leads the German team as they attempt to defend their title won at Tryon and with DSP Quantaz. Her teammates include multiple eventing champion Ingrid Klimke, who is riding Franziskus at her first world championship in dressage.

Frederic Wandres & Duke of Britain FRH and Benjamin Werndl & Famoso OLD will also be competing for the title. Olympic champion Jessica von Bredow-Werndl is out as she is expecting a baby soon, while Dorothy Schneider’s showtime is hampered by an injury. Schneider & Faustus are the reserve combination of the German team.

Germany’s biggest challenge could come from host Denmark, where each quartet is in the  top 20 of the world. It was confirmed on Monday that top-ranked Cathrine Laudrup-Dufour will be partnered with Vamos Amigos in Herning, with the 10-year-old selected ahead of the equally talented Bohemian. Laudrup-Dufour will be joined by Carina Cassøe Krüth, Nanna Merrald Rasmussen and Daniel Bachmann Andersen.

Meanwhile, the United States will introduce two of last year’s Olympic silver medalists, Steffen Peters & Suppenkasper and Adrienne Lyle & Salvino. Tokyo bronze medallists Great Britain include Charlotte Fry & Glamourdale, as well as Charlotte Dujardin with a horse she has competed with just four times, Imhotep.

Para-dressage finalists:

Britain has always been a force in para dressage and Herning 2022 will be no exception. They will be big favorites for Team Gold with a team that includes Lee Pearson, Georgia Wilson, Natasha Baker and Sophie Wells. The Dutch athletes who won silver at Tokyo were Demi Haerkens, Frank Hosmer, Lotte Krijnsen and Sanne Voets. Roxanne Trunnell, who won two singles gold medals at Tokyo 2020, will lead the United States in trying to get back on the podium after her team won a bronze medal at the Paralympics.

Denmark also looks strong, with two-time Grade III Paralympic champion Tobias Thorning Jørgensen & Jolene Hill as real medal contenders. The team, including Katrine Kristensen, Karla Dyhm Junge and Nicole Johnsen, hopes to reach a higher place in the team competition compared to their 4th rank in Tokyo. National Trainer Astrid Gemal said: “The four riders who will represent Denmark at the WC 2022 have been chosen, among other things, based on their sporting form and my belief that they all have an exciting future in international Para Dressage. In addition, all four of them have an enormously positive approach to contribute to the national team.

“It will be really great to ride the WC on home ground, and we will all see together very much looking forward to it – especially after last year’s Paralympic Games in Tokyo, where the riders rode in front of empty stands. It will be a huge experience to ride for as many people as we expect to come to Herning.”

No fewer than 28 nations have entered athletes for the Para Dressage competition, including 67-year-old Lee Frawley from the US Virgin Islands and Saudi Arabia’s Ahmed Sharbatly — the cousin of Olympic Jumping medallist Abdullah Sharbatly

Vaulting:

The top three male competitors in the world, Lambert Leclezio, Lorenzo Lupacchini, and Julian Wilfling, will compete in vaulting among competitors from ten different countries.

In the female vaulting competition, 17 countries will be represented, including Manon Moutinho of France, the winner of the FEI Vaulting World CupTM, World No. 2 Kimberly Pamler of the USA, and World No. 3 Eva Nagiller of Austria.
